Review: TROUBLE IN TEXAS by Katie Lane

THERE'S A FOX IN THE HENHOUSE

Inheriting the most notorious house of ill repute in Texas can spell trouble for a girl's reputation . . . especially when she's Elizabeth Murphy, Bramble's prim and proper librarian. Yet when she discovers a buck-naked cowboy handcuffed to a four-poster bed, she forgets all about the town gossips. Elizabeth has sworn off men, but the stranger's kisses melt her resolve faster than ice cream on a hot summer day.

Waking up in Miss Hattie's Henhouse isn't how Brant Cates reckoned on getting to the bottom of his great-granddaddy's murder. The plan was to solve the centuries-old crime, then get the heck out of Dodge. But after meeting Elizabeth and discovering that the buttoned-up beauty is a sexy siren in disguise, he just can't pull himself away.

Now Brant needs Elizabeth to finally put his past to rest, but is she willing to risk her future on Bramble's newest bad boy?

I received the e-galley of TROUBLE IN TEXAS from NetGalley for an honest review.

I've read all of Katie's books that take place in Bramble, TX. I believe this is one of my favorite. It is full of humor, suspense, and realistic relationships between family. The most impressive thing about TROUBLE IN TEXAS was the way Katie made Brant, a rather unloveable character, someone that I wanted more from. She certainly redeemed him from previous books.

Elizabeth is a great character, independent and hard working librarian. But beneath her stuffy suits and daily routine is a woman full of spunk and dedication. I really enjoyed watching her transition from librarian to true owner/operator of Miss Hattie's Henhouse. She was a very relateable character that brought a different personality to the story. Katie Lane has a way of making you forget you're reading. She brings you right into the story with the characters.

Brant Cates was my least favorite of the Cates brothers going into this story. But we see a major transformation, in my opinion. in TROUBLE IN TEXAS we learn that he is who he is because he'll do anything for those he loves. It didn't take long for me to fall in love with Brant once I got to see the other side of him. The relationship between Brant and Elizabeth is volatile, but it adds a little wonder on how they will end up together. It certainly kept me turning the pages.

TROUBLE IN TEXAS has a great cast of secondary characters. The hens of Ms. Hattie's are hilarious. Three old women who are all about getting what they want, however they need to do that. I loved the dynamic of Sunshine, Baby, and Minnie.

This is a must-read series. I can't wait to see what happens to Beau Cates!

  1. I could spend hours running my fingers down that guy's chest. Romance covers are soooo hot.
