Amy stopped by the blog today to share a little more about RACING TO LOVE ~ JESSE'S SOUL which released yesterday, January 3.
J: Do you have a writing ritual?
A: I’d say for the most part, I don’t. If I’m a home and it’s early, then I always make a pot of coffee first. But I’m not always home to write, so often I just have a notebook or legal pad with me. After glancing at the paragraph or page that I’d written prior, I’m off and running.
J: Describe Jesse’s Soul in three words or less.
A: Fiery. Passionate. Sassy.
J: Jesse is the second book in the Racing to Love series and Brody has a novella. Do you have a favorite Carter, Brody or Jesse?
A: That’s a REALLY hard question. Each of the guys is so unique in their own right. I didn’t necessarily intend to do that on purpose, but since I write by the seat of my pants, the boys just became their own person with no help of my own. I love how Carter was overly sweet and just adores Molly like she’s his princess and his whole world. Brody was more laid back because he and Erin had grown up together basically, but there was no doubt that he didn’t love her with everything he has. Jesse and Eli though…both of these men are, without a doubt, more alpha. More intense, more in charge. Carter doted and loved on Molly, but Jesse is in charge when it comes to Emery. There’s the sweet, laid-back personality that everyone is used to, he’s a good, small-town guy from Texas. BUT! Emery sweeps into his world and a hidden part of Jesse flames to life and without asking, he puts himself in charge of taking care of her. Even though she never asked! And even though she’s as independent as they come!
J: What is your favorite line in Jesse’s Soul?
A: You would think with a book that long I’d have a hard time remembering one specific line. However…Jesse and Emery were talking and he asked her if she wanted to know when he knew for a fact that she was ‘the one’. I don’t want to give too much away from the scene that Jesse described to Emery, but the gist of the line goes--. “You stood up for him…and I fell for you.” Ahhhhh, how romantic, right?
J: That is a very good line!
J: Do you mirror your characters from someone in real life or are they completely new to you?
A: I would say they are just developed as the story flows along, however I will admit, pieces of Molly and Honor, mixed with a whole lot of Emery…well, they are—me. I didn’t intend it, or see it as I was writing, but going back and reading the books, it’s all there in black and white!
J: What’s in the works that you can share?
A: Well 2013 and 2014 promise to be exciting! Eli’s Honor is the third book in the Racing to Love series and it will be out in July 2013. It’s due to come back from editor any day now, so I’m excited about that. My husband teases me that I’ve been in love with Eli from day one so I’m anxious to see what everyone else thinks of him. Plus he has this tattoo…oh my, well, I guess we’ll have to wait for all that. Sorry! Alex’s Destiny is the fourth and final book in the series and I’m writing that as we speak. It will release December 2013. I will admit, it has been incredibly hard to write. Just a combination of the context added to the fact that I truly love this group of characters, and knowing it’s the last book has been verging on gloomy. However, I have a couple of short stories I could write, and I left an opening for a possible visit back to the gang in the future. However, I’ve decided I love to write in a series format, and there was someone that just wouldn’t leave me alone. I had so many people tell me they fell in love with this badass detective, and to be honest, so did I! You might remember Mike Sterling? Well, Carter’s brother has moved back to their hometown, and he has had a rough few years. What does every guy with a broken heart need? Exactly! So after I finish writing Alex’s Destiny, I’m going to jump back to Mike. He’s already about a third written and I can’t wait for his fans to meet him in a more personal way.
J: Yay for Mike!! I for one am excited for that one. And ELI! Did you say tattoo?? Now I'm really curious.
Jesse Frost lived the life most men would have killed for. Fast bikes, fame, money and looks—from the outside looking in he had all, but the combination nearly broke him. He hadn’t thought much about any of those things throughout his career, he was just an easy-going guy from a speck of a town in Texas that had always worked hard for everything he had gotten in life. He’d been the shy guy in school, so when the prom queen found him years later, he thought he had finally made it, winning her affection was the crown jewel. Her mirage however, left him empty and certain there was no one that wanted him just for the man inside.
Emery Kincaid has a last name that is revered in their world. A woman in a man’s world and succeeding, Irish through and through, she has the temper and sass to boot and a reputation that precedes her. She has remained strong because she’s had no other choice. The pain she masks runs deep and hiding it is the only way she can survive.
Thrown together because of circumstance and forced to be in each other’s space day in and day out, sparks start to fly—from chemistry and the brakes she tries desperately to throw on. Without a doubt in his mind, Jesse thinks he’s found her, but the girl that stole his heart has a stubborn streak a country mile wide.
In reality, what Jesse doesn’t know could break his heart. Hiding her true feelings for him is the only way for Emery to protect him and in turn—herself because her secret, her pain is just too big. She barely made it out the first time, if she let Jesse in, only to have him walk away…well, that’s a risk her heart can’t take.
